"Mesmerize" Illustration Friday Sept 16/2011
Inspired by the Illustration Friday word: "Mesmerize"
We don't allow ourselves to be mesmerized much as adults, don't give much time to wonder at the things we see - occupied by routine and the demands on our time, it is seldom we shake ourselves to find we've been lost in the contemplation of something in front of us.
As a child, I remember this being an everyday thing. Stepping outside the door was to step into a world of wonder - every pebble, glint or movement could become an hour of discovery.

You have truly captured a classic childhood moment! This is a wonderfully evocative drawing, and such a perfect fit for the topic. It's quite marvelous!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I love a beautiful pencil sketch, and this is just the way kids look when they find something fascinating.
ReplyDeletebeautiful pencil drawing!
ReplyDeleteI agree with all previous comments. But I believe you still do it. Otherwise you would never make such strong, simple but very convincing drawing.
ReplyDeleteLuckily there are still some adults behaving as that little boy on your drawing.....
I love the drawing and the idea behind, I think you are right, everything is so new and amazing for us when we are children, we must try not to lose that , I know we can't be exactly like that anymore but maybe try a bit, give a second look to something and be surprised, it's great inspiration to create .
ReplyDeleteSometimes I feel like this child and the most of the time when walking outside and meeting beautiful plants or insects or animals....but rythme of this society pushes us to go faster and faster.... and it is so important to keep this childish regard on the world.... I like your drawing, just try to avoid the rubber to keep preciously the Magic....Thank you for your comment!
ReplyDeleteI remember that feeling too as a child, entranced by caterpillars, rolly pollies or a big pile of dirt - you capture it so well! I love the sentiment - agree it's important not to loose that child like wonder and curiosity!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments, everyone - as artists, I think it is that sense of wonder that helps us create images that speak of important thoughts, moments, experiences.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joken, I still mesmerize over things, it's the artist in me. To be completely adult and lose your childhood curiosity is to stop growing as an artist. Great post!
ReplyDeleteNot sure how I missed this one-- it's so perfect & true. Thank goodness we can recapture that "splendour in the grass" at least sometimes as adults.
